We're really excited today.. we think one of our females is looking to make a nest.
You may remember, back in April, we introduced pairs of male & female Chinese Alligators to one-another in order to start our 2019 breeding season.
There has been lots of mating going on with all of our pairs of Alligators.
Over the past 3 days, we've been monitoring a pair of our mating Chinese Alligators closely, and we strongly believe that the female in the pair (named Ayla) is showing signs of nesting, or wanting to find somewhere to nest.
She's been exploring her enclosure quite a bit over the past few days, and this led us to believe that she is looking for a suitable spot to start making her nest. As we've mentioned before, Chinese Alligators are very particular about where they make their nests.
We've also observed what appears to be quite a bit of scraping in her enclosure, so we believe this is the beginning of nest making.
Watch this space, and we'll let you know if any nests are built !!
